Good Friday Service

March 30, 2018

7;30 P.M.

This year Calvary Protestant Church will be doing a "Tenebrae" service.

The service of Tenebrae, a word meaning "shadows," originated during the early years of the church. The service depicts the events that led to the crucifixion. The extinguishing of the candles, resulting in an encroaching darkness, symbolizes the flight of the disciples and the approaching hour of the cruicifixion. The moment of total darkness recalls the hours Christ was in the tomb. The return of the light is prophetic of the Easter soon to dawn.

In this play the events of Passion are remembered and discussed in a dialogue between Simon Peter and Judas Iscariot.  The setting for the dialogue is the  upper room where Christ and the disciples had sahred a meal together hours earlier.
